Citizens United Petition

In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the Citizens United v. FEC case that corporations are people and money equals speech, and since people have the right to free speech, corporations have the constitutional right to spend unlimited money on elections.

This corruption of democracy must end now! Corporate money has NOTHING to do with free speech! Free speech is for people NOT corporations. Corporations are NOT people! Sign here to support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

We call upon the United States Congress to pass and send to the states for ratification a constitutional amendment to reverse Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and to restore constitutional rights and fair elections to the people.

I’m Co-chair of Money Out of Politics San Juan County, partnered with Move To Amend. Groups all over Washington State, are working to pass legislation for the amendment. San Juan residents are energized for a GMO Initiative to block GMO seed from area, locally run waste district, and stop future massive coal shipments out of our waters. Necessitated to stop large corporations who lobby hard in the face of opposition from citizens and ignoring certain environmental degradation.

This “take-over” is against We the People’s constitutional rights for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…and protecting the environment we live in.

The Constitution of the United States was written to create balance in politics. When huge sums of money are poured into the political system, who can compete against it? This is not what the Founding Fathers envisioned. We need to get money out of politics.
